House Manager
The Bug Theatre is currently hiring a House Manager. This contract position reports to and

supports the Executive Artistic Director and is responsible for running the house during events. This includes opening and closing the venue and being the main point of contact for renters during their show. The ideal candidate has previous experience in technical theatre or as a stage manager and/or booth/board operator and can accommodate a flexible schedule that fluctuates month-to-month based on the theatre’s schedule.
Responsibilities include:

Open the theatre and prep it for the night’s event

Serve as the primary contact for all front-of-house activities, including communications with renters, volunteers, and customers

Keep in contact with the event stage manager about places, monitor concessions and bathroom lines during intermission, and ensure events adhere to performance schedule timelines

Greet audience members and assist with seating as needing, including offering special assistance to those with ADA seating needs and helping late arrivals find open seats
Basic booth duties, including lights up and down, monitoring sound levels, and providing media support upon request of the talent/renters

Monitor and maintain the appearance of all public areas, including the lobby and restrooms, restocking supplies as needed

Act as the on-site authority to provide leadership with customer issues and in emergency situations such as a fire alarm or inclement weather scenarios

Close down the theatre at the end of the night
Required Skills and Experience
Job Experience & Education
-
Non-profit management, business education, or equivalent experience
-
Demonstrated experience in a theater capacity including as a stage manager, booth operator, or similar
-
Previous experience working sound and light boards during live events
-
Previous leadership experience in a theatre environment a plus
-
Show flow comprehension and presentation, ensuring a professional looking show experience for the audience
Skills

Advanced understanding of theater production

Ability to work evenings and weekends and to accommodate a flexible workload, which can fluctuate month-to-month based on the theatre’s schedule

Advanced knowledge of lighting and sound equipment
-
Ability to excel under pressure in handling the unexpected

Able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, go up and down stairs, and address wiring issues that may be under the stage floor or booth
-
Excellent written and verbal skills
-
Passionate about quality customer service and positive interactions with customers
This is a contract position that pays $25 an hour and is expected to have between 10 and 20 hours a month, with the possibility of additional hours during busy seasons.
