A Piece of Bug History Returns
On Sunday, July 26th, The Emerging Filmmakers Project presents 16mm Sunday — a rare screening of 16mm avant-garde film hosted by Bruce Cooper, a name woven into The Bug's earliest days. Back in 1994, when The Bug first opened its doors, Bruce was part of that founding era and started the theatre's very first film series. He's returning this week with a piece of that history: his personal collection of 16mm experimental films, including original hand-painted works by legendary filmmaker Stan Brakhage, alongside some of Bruce's own recent films. Several pieces will be projected in true 16mm.
Bruce studied under Brakhage himself in the 1980s and went on to found the Denver Art Museum Cinema (1994–98) — a rich background he brings directly to this one-of-a-kind afternoon at The Bug.
