About The Event
A collaboration between IDEA Stages, Sasquatch Productions, and The Bug Theatre on a mission to bring new plays to Denver written, directed, designed and acted by BIPOC or other traditionally marginalized folks.
Puerto Rican Nocturne is a chronicle of the Cerro Maravilla murders, in which a group of police officers assassinated two Puerto Rican independence activists. The play alternates between the POV of the mother of one of the victims and the cop who organized the killings.
The reading is the precursor to the first ever Higher Ground Series. Higher Ground is a collaboration with The Bug Theater in which, every August, a play selected for Coffee &Cold Reads will be developed and given a full production.
The event will be in person at The Bug Theater in downtown Denver, CO and livestreamed in order to bring this story to a wider audience. Attendees can purchase a $10 ticket for the reading or a premium $25 ticket which provides access to both the reading and the production in August.
